KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Procurement Commission (NPC) has approved 30 procurement items including medical equipment for fighting coronavirus in the country.

A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the NPC held its first meeting in new 1399 solar year, President Ashraf Ghani chaired the meeting in his office on Wednesday evening.

The source said the meeting discussed 35 procurement documents and approved 30 of them worth 3.5 billion afghanis.

Contracts approved in the meeting included supplying medical equipment for fighting coronavirus, supplying computer lab equipment for 700 schools in all 34 provinces, reconstruction of Kukcha irrigation canal, approval of digging, pipe and cable extension project for fiber optic network on Kandahar-Herat route, appointing assistant organizations in Kunduz province are part of these projects, the statement said.

Three contracts for preparing carpets for the presidential palace were also among the 30 procurement items approved.

A contract for supplying and procurement of two types of vaccines for (meningitis and influenza) diseases for pilgrims for 1399 solar year was also approved in principle.

Meanwhile, Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) presented the request for increasing monetary authority to the organization for better controlling of coronavirus and the NPC approved it.

The NPC also approved Ministry of Interior (MoI)’s request for exempting tax on 243 procurement items of medicine imported from India to the ministry based on a government-to-government agreement.

The president directed officials of projects discussed in the meeting to rely more on domestic products in projects because it would help self-sustainability and create job opportunities for people inside the country.
