Flour, ghee prices up by 14pc in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of flour and ghee have increased while other essential items’ rates remain steady during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Haji Nangiali Mohammadi, a wholesaler in Kabul Mandavi Market, told Pajhwok that the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour increased from 1,600 Afghanis to 1,900 Afghanis and a tin of 16 liters of Khurshid ghee from 1,200afs to 1,300afs.

He said that the reason behind the price hike was spread of coronavirus that also hit commerce and people.

However, he said that 49kg of Pakistani sugar cost 2,050afs, 24kg of Pakistani rice 2,200afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 300afs and the same quantity of African black tea 320afs, the same rates of last week’s.

Ahmad Mustafa, who owns a grocery store in Taimani area of Kabul, sold a 50-kg sack of Kazakhstani flour for 1,950afs, a 49-kg bag of sugar for 2,150afs, 24-kg of Pakistani rice 2,500afs, a 16-litre tin of ghee for 1,400afs, one-kg of Indonesian green tea for 320afs and the same amount of black African tea for 360afs—higher than wholesale rates.

Fuel prices also stayed unchanged.

Abdul Hadi, a worker at Wazirabad Fuel Station in Kabul said that one liter of petrol cost 44afs and the same quantity of diesel 44afs.

Ahmad Javid, a liquefied gas seller in Taimani area of Kabul said that the price of a kilogram of the commodity was 55afs, the same rate of last week’s.

Most of Kabul markets and shops, including markets of gold are closed based on the government’s decision to reduce public movements in Kabul city and control coronavirus spread.

Haji Fawad Ahmad Salehzada, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area of Kabul, Thursday said that the price of one gram of Arabian gold was 3,050afs and the same quantity of Russian variety 2,550afs.

Haji Mir Hussian Sadaqat, a moneychanger at the Money Exchange Service in Sara-i-Shahzada, on last Thursday said that one US dollar was accounted for 77afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 476afs against last week’s 76.26afs and 475afs.
