JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Ulema in eastern Nangarhar province have asked people to follow medical and religious guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The call was issued by Deputy Director of Hajj and Religious Affairs Tamim Arif and a number of religious scholars during a press conference here on Sunday.
Arif briefed participants about preventive and precautionary measures to contain the coronavirus activities planned in this regard.
He said the entire world was facing a huge threat and people should not commit negligence in adopting precautionary measures.
Ulema had close contact with the people in cities and remote districts and they should encourage adoption of precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, he said.
Hajj and Religious Affairs Director Maulvi Mohammad Daud Mujahid said religious scholars had decided to carry out a campaign against the deadly virus across the country.
He said all government and private religious institutions were duty-bound to stop gatherings and encourage people to adopt measures that could help prevent the spread of the pandemic.
