CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Sixty prisoners, including five children, have been released in compliance with a presidential decree to prevent the spread of coronavirus in central Panjsher and Parwan provinces, officials said Monday.
President Ashraf Ghani earlier issued a special decree setting free 9,000 to 10,000 prisoners across the country.
The presidential decree recommends the release of prisoners including women, children, patients and individuals above 55 years of age.
Shah WaliShahid, deputy governor of Parwan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 45 prisoners, including five children, were freed from the provincial jail in compliance with the presidential decree.
He said around 40 more prisoners would be also released in next step and following the issuance of a presidential decree in that regard.
Mohammad Mansoor Anae, Punjshir governor’s spokesman, said 15 prisoners were freed in compliance with the presidential decree.
