COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan spike to 665

KABUL (Pajhwok): Another 58 people have tested positive for coronavirus across Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally to 665, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Sunday.

Dr. Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for MoPH, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the new cases had surfaced in Kabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Takhar and Kunduz provinces.

The official said of the 58 new cases, 28 were detected in Kandahar, 13 in Kabul, seven in Helmand, six in Nimroz, three in Takhar and one in Kunduz.

Mayar added 21 individuals had so far lost their lives to COVID-19 while 38 Afghans have recovered from the pandemic.

He announced a new laboratory for COVID-19 tests would start operating in northern Kunduz province in the near future.
