Child, 2 women killed in Gardez mortar strike

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Two women and a child were killed and another two women and a child of the same family injured after a mortar shell hit their home in this capital city of southeastern Pktia province on Thursday.

The mortar was fired during a clash between security forces and Taliban militants in Ibrahimkhel village of Gardez city in the afternoon, said local resident Ibrahim.

A security official said two women and one child had been killed and two women and one child injured in the incident. The source, however, said it was not known who fired the mortar.

The governor’s spokesman, Abdullah Hasrat, said the incident was being investigated.

There was no word from the insurgents in this regard.
