KABUL (Pajhwok): Another 50 individuals have tested positive for coronavirus in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally to 1,226, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Thursday.
Dr. Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for the ministry, told Pajhwok Afghan News the new cases had surfaced in Herat, Kunduz, Kabul, Logar, Panjsher, Takhar and Jawzjan provinces.
The official said 21 of the fresh cases were detected in Herat, 15 Kunduz, six in Kabul, four in Logar, two in Panjsher and one each in Takhar and Jawzjan provinces.
Mayar added 40 individuals, including four doctors, had lost their lives to the virus, from which 177 Afghans have recovered so far.
Of the 1,226 cases in Afghanistan, 419 have been detected in Kabul, 358 in Herat, 130 in Kandahar, 55 in Balkh, 40 in Nimroz, 23 in Kunduz, 22 in Nangarhar, 17 in Helmand and 16 each in Kunar and Logar.
Fifteen cases have been reported each in Paktia, Laghman and Ghazni, 12 in Baghlan, eight each in Daikundi and Takhar and seven each in Bamyan and Farah and six each in Samangan and Kapisa.
Five cases have been reported each in Faryab and Zabul and four each in Maidan Wardak, three each in Badghis and Ghor, two each in Panjsher, Parwan and Paktika and one each in Sar-i-Pul, Badakhshan and Uruzgan.
