KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 232 individuals have tested positive for coronavirus in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, taking the nation’s tally to 2,171, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Wednesday.
Wahid Majroh, spokesman for the ministry, told a media briefing here that 64 Afghan citizens, including four doctors, had lost their life to the pandemic while 260 people have recovered.
The official said of the 232 fresh cases 45 in Kandahar, 41 in Balkh, 34 in Herat, 20 in Kabul, 12 in Ghazni, 10 each in Paktia, Logar each, nine each in Samangan, Panjshir each, eight in Takhar, seven in Kunduz, five each in Nangarhar, four each in Badghis and Maidan Wardak, three in Laghman, two each in Paktika, Parwan, on each in Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
Majroh said more people would contract coronavirus and a human catastrophe would happen if precautionary measures were not taken into consideration.
He said 10 prisoners in the Pul-i-Charkhi jail tested positive for coronavirus. He doubted at least 200 inmates in the prison may have contracted coronavirus.
