AIBAK (Pajhwok): Triggered by heavy rains, flash floods completely washed away more than 1,000 homes in several districts of northern Samangan province, an official said on Tuesday.
The floods wreaked havoc in Khuram Sarbagh, Dara-i-Sauf Paeen and Hazrat Sultan districts.
Sibaghtullah Seaas, the Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority provincial head, told Pajhwok Afghan News around 1,150 residential compounds were damaged by flash floods late on Monday night in the certain districts.
Police spokesman Munir Rahimi told Pajhwok that dozens people were left stranded in Arbabe, Shah Hussiani, Kart-i-Sinma and Kart-i-Inchan villages in Aibak City, the provincial capital. He said security forces rescued the stranded families.
Haji Tila, a resident of Sarqand area of the provincial capital, said: “I have never seen such devastating floods in my 70 years of life. It destroyed people’s homes.”
