KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Kandahar Governor Hayatullah Hayat has tested positive for Covid-19. He is in quarantine, but in charge of provincial affairs.
Hayat confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News he had received his result and that he had been diagnosed with the virus.
Being in stable condition, the governor said, he would prioritise serving the people and would control provincial affairs.
He added at least 481 positive cases had surfaced in the province, whose residents should take the disease seriously and observe precaustions.
Baheer Ahmadzai, the governor’s spokesman, said samples of 10 individuals close to Hayat had been sent for tests. Their results are yet to be known.
He said they had restricted visitors’ entry into the governor house. At least 481 coronavirus cases, including 40 doctors and health workers, have been found in Kandahar.
Thirty-eight of the infected individuals have been admitted to a hospital in Aino Mena and the rest quarantined in their houses.
