<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif have conferred on the ways of cooperation on addressing the alleged drowning of of Afghan migrants.</p>
<p>Atmar informed his interlocutor over the telephone that a high-level Afghan delegation had conducted an investigation on the scene of the incident in western Herat province.</p>
<p>A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoF) said Zarif assured Atmar that an Iranian delegation would also join the probe to determine the real cause of the incident.</p>
<p>The two sides agreed on holding joint meetings in Mashhad and Herat City on the matter, which has drawn strong denunciation from the Afghan government and people.</p>
<p>Around 50 Afghans being smuggled into neighbouring Iran were arrested by Iranian guards and forced into a river between the two countries.</p>
<p>Some 25 of the migrants drowned or have been missing in the wake of torture at the hands of the Iranian guards, according to media outlets.</p>
