Balkhi proposes Kabul-Tehran labour accord

Hussain Alami Balkhi floated the suggestion on Monday — a day after foreign ministers of the two countries agreed on a joint probe into the drowning of Afghan migrants by Iranian border guards.

Human smugglers posed the biggest challenge to the Afghan refugees travelling to the neighbouring country, the minister said on a TV program.

Tehran and Kabul should sign a labour agreement enabling the Afghans seeking work in Iran, he believed, stressing enhanced border security between the two nations.

He also proposed the creation of a judicial commission in Afghanistan to combat human smuggling on the border.
