KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and his main political foe Dr. Abdullah have agreed on setting up a unity government, a source in the Presidential Palace says.
Under an expected deal, which could be signed within days, Abdullah would no longer challenge major decisions of the government, a Russian media outlet reported on Monday.
Citing a source in the Presidential Palace, Sputnik said Abdullah, who would head the peace process, would formally recognise Ghani as president.
Both Ghani and Abdullah, the former chief executive, consider themselves Afghanistan’s leaders following a disputed election last September.
The former chief executive, who has been locked in a bitter feud with Ghani over the outcome of last year’s presidential election, could be given 50 percent of cabinet slots.
