IMF’s regional executive director hails DAB structural reforms

KABUL Bank (DAB) Governor Wahidullah Nosher hailed Afghanistan’s progress in the areas of macro-financial stability and structural reforms under the recently completed ECF arrangement.

“I write to thank you for sharing with us the outline of your proposed policies to safeguard Afghanistan’s financial sector during this difficult period of change and uncertainty,” he said in a letter.

“I found the document quite insightful and agree with your proposed measures. I am confident that under your able leadership Da Afghanistan Bank will continue to remain committed to its core mandate of price and financial sector stability,” said Mojarrad.

He added that Afghanistan has made important progress in the areas of macro-financial stability and structural reforms under the recently completed ECF arrangement.

Da Afghanistan Bank’s contribution was instrumental to the success of the program. Preserving the hard-won gains through consistent and prudent polices is of paramount importance going forward.

In its recent meeting on Afghanistan’s request for emergency financing under the RCF, the IMF Executive Board welcomed the Afghan authorities’ interest in ECF successor arrangement with growth and poverty reduction as its main objective.

“I look forward to working closely with you and the IMF staff in the design and the implementation of the successor program. I wish you every success. With my highest considerations,” wrote Jafar Mojarrad.
