Afghan government gets $200 million incentive grant from WB

KABUL Bank (WB) incentive policy development grant after completing some reform programs, a statement from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said on Monday.

The WB handed over $200 out of total $400 grant on Sunday to the government of Afghanistan, the statement said.

The grant was provided to the Afghan government for the successfully implement the biometric process for civil servants and to launch an electronic tax return program for large taxpayers.

The money will be spent through the national budget in accordance with the priorities of the Afghan government.

Earlier, the WB approved a $400 million grant to help Afghanistan sustain the pace of key economic and public finance reforms, and support the country to manage current risks and uncertainties compounded by the COVID-19 crisis.

The Incentive Program Development Policy Grant comprises $160 million from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank Group’s fund for the poorest countries, and $240 million from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF), managed by the World Bank on behalf of 34 donors.
