KABUL (Pajhwok): China has reiterated support for an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process, hoping that intra-Afghan talks will begin soon.
Negotiations among Afghan factions would yield positive results in terms of peace and stability, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Beijing said on Tuesday.
Zhao Lijian told a regular weekly media briefing China would continue to enhance communication and coordination with relevant factions and help the international community in achieving a political settlement.
As a traditional and friendly neighbour, China respected the Afghan people’s independent decision on its future development path, he promised.
About Monday’s video, chaired by Russia, the spokesman said the event was attended by Chinese, Russian, Iranian and Pakistani diplomats.
Zhao Lijian said: “They urged parties in Afghanistan to fight international terrorist organisations and reiterated their support for Afghanistan’s fight against COVID-19.”
