Herat health officials warn against social gathering during Eid

 

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Heath officials in western Herat province warned against traveling and meetings with people during Eid saying the practices will help spread the coronavirus.

Dr. Mir Ibrahim Baseem, who deal coronavirus related affairs in the province, said travelling during Eid could be dangerous when it comes to the spread of coronavirus.

Some civil society activists shared similar views and termed meetings during Eid a source of coronavirus spread.

Mohammad Daud Afshar, a social affairs expert, said meeting people during Eid is equivalent to suicide.

“Meeting people, welcoming guests and offering food to them is or culture and norms but health protection is important then our cultural values,” he said.

Tawab Mubarez, youth cultural and information head in Herat, said one way to support less fortunate people is to donate them the amount spent during Eid celebration.

Obaid Ahmad, the resident of Herat, said: “Coronavirus is dangerous and deadly so we should adhare to precautionary measures. If we live Eid will return time and again, no matter if we don’t celebrate on Eid.”

Hassan, another Herat resident said: “In this situation it is the duty of every individual to ensure precautionary measures in the wake of coronavirus.”
