JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 16 Taliban insurgents and three Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel have been killed as a result of a clash in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents stormed security check-posts in Hesarak district on Sunday night.
He said at least 16 fighters were killed and nine others wounded in retaliatory gunfire from the security forces. Two notorious rebel commanders -- Abbas and Idrees -- were among the dead, he added.
