KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least nine civilians were killed and another five wounded when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Arghistan district of southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, an official said.

Police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barekzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the civilian vehicle was travelling from the district to Kandahar City, the provincial capital, when it struck the hidden bomb at around 11am.

Accusing the Taliban of emplacing the bomb, he said nine civilians were killed and five more were wounded in the blast,

Akhtar Mohammad, a resident of the area, confirmed the incident and said all the victims were civilians who were travelling to the provincial capital.

He said the injured were shifted to Mirwais zonal hospital with some in critical condition.
