KABUK (Pajhwok): An Average apricot yield of central Parwan province may reach 24,000 metric tonnes this year, a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture said on Thursday.
“Apricot is the second most produced and liked fruit in the province after grapes. Currently the apricot farms are spread on 298 hectares of land in the province,” the statement quoted Parwan Agriculture Director Abdul Wahab Khairzad as saying.
Areas in the Shinwari, Syagard, Surkh Parsa, Shaikh Ali and Dara-i-Ghorband are known for producing bumper and high quality of apricot.
According to Agriculture officials, 4,500 news apricot orchards were established last year while 5,810 farmers had been provided with training and over 2,000 farmers had been provided with necessary equipment.
According to the Parwan Agriculture Department currently 745 farmers in the province are associated with apricot farming. Ten percent of the yield was consumed in Parwan, 60 percent was dispatched other provinces and foreign countries while 30 percent was dried.
