SHARAN (Pajhwok): A district police chief has been killed and four policemen have wounded in a Taliban attack in southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Thursday.
A security official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News a clash occurred between the security forces and the Taliban in Bagkhel district late on Wednesday night.
He said Mir Alam, the district police chief, was killed and four other policemen were wounded in the overnight battle.
The source added the Taliban insurgents also suffered casualties, but exact figures were not immediately available.
Mohammad Omar, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok the firefight happened after the district police chief came under Taliban ambush.
He said Mir Alam was killed and four policemen were wounded in the attack. The Taliban have not yet commented on the firefight.
