Taliban want war, unwilling for peace: NSC

KABUL attacks led to the displacement of as many as 1500 families in northern Jawzjan province during the past one week, officials said on Sunday.

Javid Faisal, National Security Council (NSC) spokesman, told a joint press conference with his Interior Ministry counterpart in Kabul that the Taliban killed hundreds of Afghans by stepping up their attacks.

He said the Taliban continued to unleash violence and did nothing for peace, which meant they did not want peace in the country. “But they should know peace is a need.”

Tariq Aryan, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs, accused the Taliban militants of increasing their attacks after their peace fact with the US in Qatar few months back.

He said 422 Afghans suffered causalities in 222 Taliban attacks within 29 provinces.

 He said Taliban attacks helped other terrorists to find space and increase violence in the country.

Sayed Shah Saqim, spokesman for the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, also addressed the press conference and said their services confronted hurdles due to the increase in insurgent attacks in provinces.

He said the Taliban destroyed 51 big and small bridges and 16 local roads in the past week that saw around 1500 families leaving their homes in Mardian and Manjagak districts of Jawzjan province.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
