42 die of Covid-19 in Afghanistan in 24 hours

KABUL (Pajhwok): About 658 new positive coronavirus cases have been registered in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s total to 27,532, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Thursday.

However, new cases in western Herat province could not be detected over the last five days due to a shortage of diagnostic kits, the ministry said, The 658 new cases were confirmed from among 1,301 samples.

A total of 415 new cases were reported in Kabul, 62 in Bamyan, 40 in Takhar, 27 in Kandahar, 22 in Kunduz, 21 in Logar, 17 in Baghlan and 14 in Panjsher, the ministry said.

It added 10 people were infected with the virus in Daikundi, seven in Parwan, six each in Zabul and Balkh, five in Ghor, four in Faryab and two in Ghazni.

 At least 1502 people recovered from the coronavirus during the past 24 hours, taking the total recoveries 6,600,

The ministry said 42 people died from the disease in the past 24 hours, driving the total death toll up to 546 on Thursday nationwide.
