US vows to work with Afghan government overcome challenges

KABUL (Pajhwok): US Foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo in a congratulatory message to Acting Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar pledged to work with Afghan government to overcome challenges of terrorism and global pandemic.

In a series of tweets the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said: “Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Haneef Atmar, received a congratulatory note from the Honorable Micheal R. Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State. In a message delivered to Minister Atmar by Mr Ross Wilson, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.”

The Secretary conveyed his congratulations and stated: “Afghanistan will benefit greatly from your extensive experience as it faces the challenges of moving quickly to advance the peace process, combat the global pandemic, and address the continued threat of terrorism.

“We look forward to working closely on these challenges with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all our partners across the Afghan Government. Continued close cooperation will be vital to achieving success in these and many other areas.”

“We also welcome opportunities to work with you to strengthen Afghanistan’s relationships within the region and to reinforce the ties between the American &Afghan peoples. Again, we extend our congratulations, & wish you every success on the road ahead.”
