KABUL (Pajhwok):The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has said it would continue equipping and providing medicine to Dasht-i-Barchi Maternity Ward in Kabul and would launch work in the Covid-19 Treatment Center of western Herat province in near future.
According to a Pajhwok Afghan News report, 13 people including women and children were shot death and 15 others were injured in armed attack claimed by Daesh on Dasht-i-Barchi Maternity Ward on May 12.
The MSF had asked the government to identify those involved in the attack, however it decided on June 15 to withdraw from the hospital.
A statement from the Ministry of Public Health, Filipe Ribeiro.
The minister requested MSF to continue service in Dasht-i-Barchi Maternity Ward and appreciated MSF efforts in Afghanistan as important contributors, the statement said.
It quoted Ribeiro as saying that the aim of their withdrawal from Dasht-i-Barchi Maternity Ward was to protect their workers from such incidents.
However, he said, “We are committed to equip and provide medicines to this hospital.”
On the other hand, the statement said that MSF would work in Covid-19 Treatment Center in Herat province from June 28.
