President tasks AGO to identify corrupt elements

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has welcomed MEC’s report on corruption and tasked the Attorney General Office (AGO) to identify corrupt elements and launch investigation against them, a statement from Presidential Palace said on Thursday.

A video meeting of the Rule of Law and Good Governance High Council was held in the palace before noon in which corruption vulnerabilities in the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Custom Departments and National Procurement Authority (NPA) were discussed.

In the beginning MEC Secretary presents his remarks regarding corruption vulnerabilities in the MoF and its various departments.

He said through the implementation of 41 recommendations majority corruption vulnerability areas in the MoF would be addressed.

The president welcomed MEC report and directed the implementation of MEC’s recommendations. He also tasked the AGO to identify corrupt elements and take them to justice.

The council stressed over the implementation of MEC’s recommendations and asked government institutions and ministries to implement reform and ensure transparency in their administrative structure.
