KABUL (Pajhwok): A cousin of President Ashraf Ghani has been found shot to death inside his home in Kabul, police said on Saturday.
The victim, Eng. Reshad Ahmadzai, is said be a cousin of President Ashraf Ghani’s father.
Kabul police spokesman Firdos Faramarz told Pajhwok Afghan News Ahmadzai was gunned down by unidentified assailants inside his home in the 6th police district on Friday evening.
The killers managed to flee the area, he said, adding Ahmadzai’s body had been shifted to hospital and an investigation launched into the incident.
Asked if Ahmadzai was President Ghani’s relative, the police spokesman replied that the investigating team had said nothing as yet in this regard.
But a well-placed source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said victim was cousin of President Ghani.
Without providing further details, the source said the gunmen shot dead Ahmadzai with a pistol.
Another source in Presidential Palace, also wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok that Eng. Reshad Ahmadzai was President Ghani father’s cousin.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the murder.
