KABUL or Senate chairman Fazl Hadi Muslimyar on Sunday hit out at some lawmakers over their absence and apologized to the nation for lack of work due to lack of quorum.
Muslimyar called absenteeism as embarrassing and said he will take serious action against absent MPs.
The senate’s today included free discussion, seven provisions of the relevant law and voting in this regard, but none could be done due to lack of quorum.
Muslimyar told today’s session: “It is embarrassing that we don’t have the required number of members in the house. I apologize to people for this. It is painful for us that we are unable to gather 35 members to complete the quorum. Today 26 members are present and the quorum is not complete.”
He said the absence of some members had made it impossible to determine the fate of some laws and decrees sent to the house for approval.
The senate chair directed the secretariat of the house to contact all members to attend next meetings to run the house business.
Muslimyar said attendance would be required in general sessions and commission meetings and those absent would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
