KABUL (Pajhwok): An international virtual meeting on peace in Afghanistan and forging regional consensus on the reconciliation process began in Kabul on Monday.
Organised by the Presidential Palace, the meeting is being attended by representatives from 19 nations and global organisations, officials say.
Representatives from the US, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries are participating in the event.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar is hosting the meeting, according to presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqi, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intra-Afghan negotiations.
Reduction in violence, the start of inter-Afghan talks, exchange of prisoners and a humanitarian ceasefire are on the agenda, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The began with a speech by President Ashraf Ghani. At the end, a joint declaration on peace in Afghanistan will be issued.
