KABUL (MoPH) has referred its10 employees, including provincial heads, to the Attorney General Office (AGO) for their alleged involvement in corruption, an official said on Saturday.
Acting Public Health Minister Mohammad Jawad Usmani said this during the transfer ceremony of 500 ventilators to provinces purchased by government.
Usmani said the ministry welcomed all complaints from people against individuals involved in corruption within the ministry’s system.
He said as a result of probe they introduced 10 employees, including department heads, to the AGO.
According to him, the 10 individual are accused of negligence in the procurement process, misuse of provincial fund, managerial weakness and illegal recruitment.
Without naming the accused, Usmani said identity of these accused employees of the ministry would be unveiled after the AGO’s investigation.
“Documents regarding corruption in purchasing CT scan machine have been collected and I will sign them today for sending to AGO, “he informed.
Last week, Pajhwok Afghan News and Hasht-i-Subh daily published some reports of embezzlement in the fund for the fight against coronavirus.
Distribution of 500 ventilators to provinces
The acting minister said the government had purchased 500 respiratory devices (ventilators) through procurement process by MoPH’s budget in Germany and delivered them to the country on July 4.
He said of 500 ventilators, 106 would go to Kabul hospitals and eight other provinces.
“Ventilators are being sent to all provinces of the country based on population and need and special teams have been formed to operate the machines which will be sent to the provinces soon,” he added.
Ghulam Sakhi, head of the central medical warehouse, told Pajhwok that 432 ventilators would be sent to 33 provinces and 66 others to central hospitals this week.
