13 security personnel killed in Kunduz attacks

KABUL attacks in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Monday.

A security official, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News nine policemen and four army soldiers were killed in predawn attacks.

He said 10 security forces members were injured when the insurgents stormed checkpoints in the provincial capital and on the Kunduz-Ali Abad highway.

Esmatullah Muradi, the spokesman for the governor, confirmed the assaults. However, he put the number of fatalities among the security personnel at eight — five police and three army soldiers.

He added three policemen and two soldiers were wounded in the overnight attacks. The attackers also suffered casualties, he said, without giving specific figures.
