KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Thirty-seven Taliban militants have been killed and another six wounded during an airstrike by foreign forces and in clashes with Afghan security forces in southern Kandahar province, officials said on Tuesday

Kandahar Police Chief Brig. Gen. Tadin Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News militants stormed Malid security check-posts in Tor area of the Takhtapol district late on Monday night.

He said NATO’s Resolute Support (RS) Mission Air Forces arrived in the arrived during the clash in the area.

At least 25 Taliban insurgents were killed in the foreign forces’ airstrike and four bodies of the rebels were left in the area, he added.

He said security forces and civilians had suffered no causalities in the attack.

Meanwhile, Jamal Nasir Barekzai, the police spokesman, told Pajhwok that a number of Pakistani nationals were also among the killed.

He added that Taliban militants had also stormed security check-posts in Shekhan area of the Arghistan district late on Monday night.

He said five Taliban insurgents were killed and another two wounded in the nighttime firefight.

Barekzai further added seven others Taliban militants were killed and another four wounded in a clash with policemen in Toghari locality of the Maroof district on Monday night.

But a reliable source, told Pajhwok eight police personnel were also killed in the clashes.

The Taliban have not yet commented about these incidents.
