KABUL.
After emerging in the Wuhan city of China last December, the COVID-19 virus has spread to at least 210 countries around the globe.
In initial months, mostly Chinese citizens were infected and killed by the disease, which has now been controlled by China. But it is spreading rapidly in Europe and America.
Around 15 million people contracted Covid-19 while nine million others have recovered from the pandemic worldwide, statistics from a US-based university suggest.
So far 620,000 individuals have died from the novel coronavirus, most of them in European countries and the United States of America.
The MoPH said the Covid-19 rate had decreased in Afghanistan but the ministry called on the people to follow medical instructions and guidelines to prevent further spread of the virus.
At least 48 new Covid-19 cases were detected in different parts of the country in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s overall tally to 36,036.
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said in a statement that 196 individuals underwent tests during the period and 48 of them were diagnosed with the coronavirus.
The MoPH said mostly men lost their lives to the virus or 75 percent while 25 percent women lost their lives to the pandemic in Afghanistan.

It added so far 200 women have been died of the Covid-19 pandemic in Afghanistan.
According the MoPH information over 45 healthcare workers have been died and another 3300 contracted with the virus in Afghanistan.
The ministry the COVID-19 virus has spread to all 34 provinces but mostly in capital Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Paktia, Balkh, Bamyan, Nangarhar, Takhar, Baghlan, Badghis and some others provinces.
Around 40 percent patients of the virus are from Kabul or around 15,000 people. According to the information, mostly less number of people infected with the virus in Nuristan, Uruzgan, Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan and Zabul provinces.
The ministry said 505 people died from the disease in Kabul, 165 in Herat, 67 in Nangarhar, 62 in Balkh, 37 in Ghazni, and 35 each in Kandahar and Paktia and 31 in Takhar.
