Taliban unilaterally declare 3-day Eid ceasefire

KABUL, starting Friday, the group's spokesman said.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter that the three-day truce would allow people to spend Eid in confidence and happiness, adding that all fighters were instructed not to carry out any operations.

However, he added that if Taliban fighters come under attack from government forces, they will retaliate.

Violence in Afghanistan has increased over recent weeks as the prisoner exchange between the Afghan government and Taliban has stalled.

US  and NATO forces commander in Afghanistan on Tuesday said violence in the war-torn country had reached new heights.

The truce comes after Taliban supreme leader Mullah, especially regional countries.
