Huge quantity of alcoholic drink seized in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Police confiscated thousands of bottles of alcoholic beverages at the Hairatan dry port in northern Balkh province, an official said on Sunday.

The bottles numbering 9054 were destined for Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, and have been imported from Uzbekistan, said Balkh police spokesman Adil Shah Adil.

He said the illicit drinks had been skillfully hidden in commercial goods from Uzbekistan in a container, which was stopped on the way to Mazar-i-Sharif.

One person has been arrested in connection with the seizure, the police official said.
