KABUL in a statement on Thursday.
On the first day of Eidul Adah, President Ashraf Ghani suggested convening the Loya Jirga to decide the fate of 400 prisoners on a Taliban list handed to his administration.
The Loya Jirga is convened tomorrow Friday August 7. The gathering may last three to five days.
A statement from the ex-president Karzai office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said it was responsibility of both the sides to remove all hurdles to the start of intra-Afghan talks and create trust.
The statement quoted Karzai as saying that only trust building could bring lasting peace to the country.
He said, “I hope the upcoming consultative Loya Jirga will insist on prompt start to intra-Afghan negotiations and will suggest measures that could lead to lasting peace.”
Karzai said if the Loya Jirga observed these points, they would support and welcome it.
