People to stand against Durand Line fencing soon: Qadir

KABUL of creating obstacles to the Afghan peace process.

Qadir, who formed the Peace Caravan party almost eight years ago, told a news conference in Kabul that peace was a foremost priority for Afghans.

He said Pakistan should be asked to clarify why it was hostile to the Afghan peace process.

The former lawmaker said fencing the Durand Line was not acceptable to any Afghan.

The Pakistan on last Thursday vehemently denied the insinuation that its military was conducting “illegal” fencing of the Durand Line, a British-era frontier that Kabul does not recognize as a formal border.

“We have started work, contacts have been made with elders in some provinces and in near future we will stand up against Pakistan’s arbitrariness in this regard”, said Zahir Qadir.

He added they hoped the Afghan government in cooperation with the international community will question Pakistan’s arbitrariness, rocket attacks and hostility to the peace process.

He also called on elders on both sides of the Durand Line not to stay silent against Pakistani oppression.

Qadir also said construction of the dam on the Kunar River was the will of people and that he was with the young people who had recently started a campaign to build the dam.

He said the Afghan government should make construction of the dam on the Kunar river as a priority.
