Raid to arrest former AFF head yields no result

PARAKH (Pajhwok): A security operation to arrest former President of Afghanistan Football Federation Keramuddin Karim has yielded no result in central Panjsher province.

The Attorney General Office (AGO) has ordered the arrest of Karim, accused of sexually harassing female football players, but he fled to Panjsher province and is yet to be arrested.

FIFA has also suspended Karim and fined him $1 million.

Mohammad Mansour Anabi, acting governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan special forces backed by air support on Sunday night conducted a raid to arrest Karim. But the security forces were unable to arrest him, he added.

A well-placed government source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that in order to support Karim, residents of the area faced security forces and exchanged gunfire and the security forces retreated from the area.

He said both sides suffered no casualties but local government arrested some residents.
