Tehran renews support for inclusive Afghan dialogue

KABUL, stressing that the problems in the neighbouring country should be talked out.

“We support a peace process involving all Afghan groups, including the Taliban, and without any foreign interference,” an Iranian diplomat said on Tuesday.

Seyed Rasoul Mousavi, assistant to the Iranian foreign minister, outlined Tehran’s stance addressing a meeting of the Heart of Asia - Istanbul Process through a video conference.

Mousavi, who is also foreign ministry’s director-general for West Asia, remarked: “A responsible withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan is a necessary step towards peace.”

According to Fars News Agency, he asked the Taliban to join the intra-Afghan talks -- the only way to reach an acceptable political solution and avoid violence during negotiations.

Iran was willing to help the Afghan peace negotiations in case of demand from participants, he said, hoping the long-expected dialogue would begin soon.
