KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): A dozen people, all from the same family, were killed as a roadside bomb tore through their pick-up vehicle in the Spinboldak district of southern Kandahar province on Friday.
The early morning blast took place in Loy Karez and children.
The governor’s spokesman, Baheer Ahmadi, told Pajhwok that they were investigating if the victims included women and children as some of the bodies had been burnt beyond recognition.
He accused the Taliban of planting the roadside bomb. However, the rebels have so far said nothing in this regard.
Resident and a member of the provincial council, Haji Nimatullah Sherdeli, said the blast killed 12 people belonging to the same family and they included women and children.
He said the victims were travelling to meet their relatives.
“I belong to Loy Karez area and I have confirmed information that the victims include women and children.”
Roadside blasts have recently increased in border and northern districts of Kandahar province and as a result, civilian casualties have surged.
The blast comes two days after three civilians were killed in a similar incident in Shah Walikot district.
