KABUL) personnel seized 2,150 kilograms of Ammonium Nitrate --- a substance used in landmine making --- from two trucks in eastern Nangarhar province and arrested five suspects.
Governor Ziaulhaq Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News NDS personnel acting on a tip-off conducted a raid in Bawali locality of Sararud district on Tuesday night and recovered the Ammonium Nitrate from two trucks.
He added: “The substance is used in making landmines, explosives, suicide jackets and bombs. The recovery thwarted the loss of innocent lives and property devastation, ” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Ammonium Nitrate was banned during former President Hamid Karzai’s tenure when the substance was first used in a deadly terrorist attack.
