KABUL negotiators met Tuesday evening in Qatar, but failed to agree on the framework and schedule for direct peace negotiations
Both sides confirmed their inability to work out an agenda and schedule for discussions on a peace agreement during their first formal meeting.
Government negotiator Nader Naderi and Taliban spokesman Dr. Muhammad Naeem said in similar statements on Twitter: “The meeting took place today at 4:30pm.”
Two members from each team were assigned to act as contact persons. The framework, which initially had 23 articles, has been reduced 19 articles.
Negotiators earlier agreed to rules and procedures, but some issues were still outstanding, said the statement.
The type of a future government and a permanent ceasefire are among the divisive issue, negotiators from sides acknowledged.
