JALALABAD (Pajhwok): National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel have detained eight militants and four alleged criminals in eastern Nangarhar province, the deputy governor said on Tuesday.
Deputy governor Tamim Arif Momand told a press conference here that the suspects were currently being interrogated.
The detainees included seven Taliban members, two Daesh rebels, two kidnappers, one irresponsible gunman and one arrested with fake banknotes.
Momand said the individuals had been arrested in Jalalabad City, Behsud, Achin, Momand Dara districts and Torkham port.
He added NDS personnel also recovered 12 landmines from Taliban hideouts in Surkhrod and Achin districts.
According to Momand, militants have increased their activities in Hisarak, Shirzad and Khogyani districts but they faced strong resistance from security forces.
Arif Momand said, however, the government emphasized on peace, asking Taliban to embrace peace. He the rebels would face strong resistance if they attacked security forces.
