JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday ordered the transfer of all Torkham transport department officials, including its head, and asked the intelligence director for serious cooperation in prevention of corruption at the port.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Governor Ziaulhaq Amerkhel issued the orders during a meeting with traders in the Torkham Township.
The governor said empty and loaded trucks would be allowed to travel to Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on their turn five days a week.
He said only empty trucks would be allowed on Fridays and Saturdays, but this decision was valid for six weeks only and that further changes could be made in order to resolve problems.
The governor also ordered replacement of all the Torkham transport department staff, including its head and instructed the intelligence director to work with him in fighting corruption.
He said these measures would facilitate traders and directly impact prices, urging traders not to allow corruption.
Amarkhel also e assured that in order to widen the road, the Public Works Department head had been tasked to carry out the design work and also called for construction of a bridge with the help of traders through a transparent mechanism.
During the meeting, Nasrullah Sahibzada, Director of Nangarhar Customs, Haji Gulmurad Arab, Head of Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Mukhlis and Haji Zalmai thanked the governor for visiting Torkham to address their concerns.
