KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) on Tuesday said former Public Order Police Commander Zamarai Paikan has been awarded three years of imprisonment over misuse of authority.

In a statement, the AGO said Paikan had been accused of appointing his son illegally on a post and providing him military personnel and ammunition.

The statement said after his son appointment, two of his son’s bodyguards were wounded in a roadside bombing in 2016.

The statement further added that after Paikan acknowledged about his son’s incident and instructed his personnel to shift the injured to hospital and his son to home.

On his way back to Kabul from the scene of the incident, Peikan’s son threatened a man with whom he had personal enmity and shot him dead.

The Court of Appeals reduced the jail term of Paikan to three years based on investigation by the prosecutor in the case.

Earlier, Paikan was awarded eight years and six months of imprisonment over his involvement in the murder and misuse of authority.

Eight more people were also awarded jail terms from one year to eight years by the Counter Narcotics Justice Centre’s primary court.
