Massoum Stanikzai and five members of his delegation met US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad in the capital of Qatar on Friday.
Khalilzad was accompanied by Lisa Kurtz deputy secretary of the US National Security Council, and Maali Fei, the US Ambassador to Qatar.
The meeting focused on America’s commitment to Afghanistan and the need for a comprehensive ceasefire in the war-torn country.
Stanikzai underlined the firm will and independence of Afghans to achieve peace and the need for support from regional countries and the world for the success of the dialogue.
Separately, Stanikzai also met Hafiz Mohammad Al Ajmal, Kuwait’s ambassador to Qatar, The chief negotiator expressed his condolences on the death of the Emir of Kuwait.
Intra-Afghan talks were also discussed during the meeting. The ambassador praised ongoing peace efforts and said Muslims needed to adapt to the 21st century realities.
Hafiz Mohammad Al Ajmal supported the position of Kabul’s negotiating delegation on ensuring peace and security in Afghanistan.
