Daesh man involved in Nangarhar prison assault held

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): The spy service on Monday claimed arresting a suspect in this year’s coordinated attack on the main prison in eastern Nangarhar province.

On August 1, militants carried out a coordinated attack on the Nangarhar prison, which resulted in the killing of 25 individuals, injuring of 50 others with hundreds of inmates escaping.

In a statement, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said 02 unit personnel carried out an operation in Lasamy Vialay area of Behsud district on Sunday night, arresting three Daesh or Islamic State militants.

The source said Waqif, who had been involved in the Nangarhar prison attack, was among the detainees.

Security personnel and civilians suffered no casualties during the overnight raid, the statement said.
