MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Residents of Alasai district of central Kapisa province complain that the Afghan National Army (ANA) has closed the town’s main road against traffic since last week.
Hamidullah, a resident of the district, said that ANA soldiers had closed the asphalted-road that connects the district with the provincial capital for traffic and as a result, the residents faced many issues.
About the notion that the road was closed to prevent the movement of militants and maintain security, the resident said: “The Taliban can travel on foot, people have problems, they need to take patients to hospital and bring home needed commodities.”
Saifullah, another resident, also criticized the road closure, which he said had confronted the residents with great inconvenience.
Other residents held similar views, saying if the government could not facilitate the public, it should not create problems for them.
Qais Qaderi, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the issue and said the local government was trying to reopen the road for traffic.
According to Qaderi, no reason could be used to and block the general road of Alasai district against people and Governor Abdul Latif Murad had directed to the authorities concerned to find alternative ways.
Mohammad Haroon Yousafzai, spokesman for the 201stSelab Military Corps, said the road had been closed by the military council of the district in order to prevent security threats. He said the road closure was a temporary move and the problem would be resolved soon
