TIRNIKOT (Pajhwok): Construction work on a community centre for women has been launched in the capital of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Sunday.
Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad, addressing the inaugural ceremony said the community centre would have 38 shops, a recreational park, sidewalks, a mosque and other facilities.
Niamatullah Bakhtiar, Tirinkot mayor, said the construction of the centre would cost 22.7 million afghanis and would take one year to complete.
He said the project was being funded with municipality budget and poor women would get job opportunities.
Maryam, a resident of Tirinkot, told Pajhwok the centre would be used for commercial purposes and hosting functions and cultural events.
