GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Taliban have set alight a Salaam Network telecom tower in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.
Eng. Rahimullah Abid, Salaam Network head in the southeastern zone, said the Taliban destroyed the in the Salaat Baig locality and took away solar panels.
“The incident happened at around 1:00am when the Taliban arrived in the area and burnt the tower, generators, fuel container and electricity system. They decamped with solar panels.”
He said the tower was located four kilometres from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) office and 300 metres from a police check-post.
The Taliban were interested in destroying the antenna because Salaam Telecom was a state entity, the official added.
Communications and Information Technology Director Abdullah Totakhel expressed concern over the incident and asked security organs to prevent such attacks in future.
